BrightSign 'RS232 Serial' Interface Products

for Units with DB9 RS232 Serial Port

& Special Adapter for 3.5mm to RS232

Important Information about Series 3 BrightSigns

The Serial Port on Series 3 BrightSigns is changed to a Stereo connector and no longer supplies 5V as required by most of our RS232 interface boards.  You will need to order the ST-DB9-5V adapter in order to interface to any Series 3 BrightSigns.  This adapter requires 5V power supply (2.1mm jack provided).  Most of the RS232 interface boards have equivalent USB interfaces.

Because all of this product was developed for use with BrightSign products, we are in the process of phasing out RS232 interfaces.  Important!  If you order RS232 products for use with 'Non BrightSign Products', please contact us and inform us that you wish us to continue with products that you specifically use.

Series 3 'Serial' Adapter

Use this adapter with any RS232 interface board that utilizes the 5V supplied on the DB9 connector from Legacy BrightSigns.  Order a 5V power supply (2.1mm jack) if you need it.  Has 'Crossover' jumpers in case a Null Modem cable or 'Cross-Over' cable is required.

Note: Some recent BrightSigns use RS232 (not RS232-C)  This adapter makes easy connection of the stereo cable to the RS232 device

ST-RS232-5V ADAPTER

TTL-Low-RS232 Adapter

Price Each: $22.00 (USD)

TTL to RS223 Adapter

Use this adapter to 'level shift' and Invert the RS232-C signals on the stereo connection of the BrightSign to True RS232 (+ and - voltages). Order a 5V power supply (2.1mm jack) if you need it.  Null-Crossover jumpers provided for the TX/RX pins.  Note: Pin 2 and Pin 3 of the DB9 connector should both have negative voltage when J1 & J2 are set properly (both the BrightSign and the RS232 device powered and connected)

USB-A-RS232 ADAPTER

Price Each: $12.00 (USD)

Gender

USB-A to RS232 Adapter

TRUE RS232 (-/+ VOLTAGES)

Plugs directly into the BrightSign. DB9 female or DB9 Male connectors.  On board jumpers to cross TX/RX as needed (eliminates the need for a cross-over cable)
Note: When the jumpers for TX/RX (J1/J2) are set properly, both pin 2 and pin 3 will have negative voltage if the RS232 device is connected and the BrightSign is powered.  J1/J2 should both be set to 'M' or 'S'.

USB-5V Cable

Price Each: $3.50 (USD)

Series 3 USB-5V Cable

Use the USB Port of the BrightSign to Power the logic of any HMS Serial board (maximum current draw does not exceed 50 milliamps on any HMS Serial board).  Use this cable with the above adapter to save on power supply and wiring clutter.

Please inquire if you have a custom requirement for interfacing!  Turn around can be a little as two weeks.

Note: External Supply Voltage:  An External Power Supply is needed to power the loads on the output connector.  Do not connect any loads that have their own power that exceeds the power as applied to the board using the 'Ext. Power Connector'.  Doing so may result in damage to the board.  I.E. Suppose that 12 volts is supplied to this board and you have a relay board with it's own power of 24Volts DC that powers the relays.  The 24VDC will feed back into the board via the foldback diodes.  Note: Foldback diodes are required for inductive loads such as relays or small motors.
